Job Description:
The Virginia Department of Education’s (VDOE) Training and
Technical Assistance Center (T/TAC) in the School of Education,
Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (Virginia Tech)
is seeking an individual to deliver technical assistance to
educators and administrators in the area of special education in 33
school divisions in Southwest Virginia. Sponsored by the VDOE, the
mission of the T/TAC is to improve educational opportunities, build
the capacity of educators, and contribute to the success of
children and youth with disabilities. The Center provides quality
training and technical assistance in response to local, regional,
and state needs. The position emphasizes integrating research-based
and/or evidence-based practices that foster access to the general
education curriculum for students with disabilities, achievement in
the least restrictive environment, and knowledge and skills to
transition to adult settings. Responsibilities include coordinating
and delivering individual and classroom technical assistance in
educational settings, coordinating and providing regional
professional development activities, disseminating information and
resources, and collaborating with the VDOE. The position demands
strong problem-solving, team-building, and collaborative skills;
the ability to communicate with teachers, therapists,
paraprofessionals, administrators, families, and community service
personnel; and sensitivity to the unique needs of the school
divisions served by the project. Frequent day travel is expected,
and overnight travel may be required. Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in special or general education or a related field;
Experience working in a public-school setting; Demonstrated
knowledge and expertise in the areas of data analysis as it
pertains to the division, school, classroom, and individual
students; Knowledge and experience using effective inclusive
practices, collaborative problem solving, and explicit
instructional strategies; Excellent interpersonal and communication
skills with adult learners; Ability to manage a variety of tasks
with varying intensities and priorities Preferred Qualifications
Experience instructing diverse learners with varying special
education needs; Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in
collaboration, instructional coaching, and student assessment;
Early childhood education experience with students pre-kindergarten
through school age, with knowledge working with students with
complex needs; Familiarity with assistive and instructional
technology; Embody a growth mindset philosophy, believing that
abilities can be cultivated, seek personal and professional growth,
value effort as a path to mastery, and learn from feedback Overtime
