Job Description Job Description The Construction Services Field Technician I works collaboratively with other JDS employees in leading the Company toward its long-term vision of being the premier provider of engineering, design, and construction material testing in the region. An employee in this class will accurately perform tests and record data for quality control and engineering inspections that follow Local, regional, & National standards as well as the JDS directives and standards. The Construction Services Field Technician is expected to act as an ambassador for the JDS brand and mission. Who we are: Our product is progress. JDS Priorities for 2026: Employee experience & quality of life Risk management Communication & customer service Lastly financial profitability Primary Responsibilities and Expectations Maintain a positive working relationship with all department staff and other JDS personnel Makes site visits and communicates with clients Basic plan reading and interpretation skills Maintain organization of project information and paperwork Utilizes equipment to mechanically test soil, such as the DCP test Auger and test in-place soil for compaction, density, and moisture content using a variety of methods Locating and plotting tests on project data sheets Determining soil types and bearing capacities Manage documentation of soil testing, including all analysis and necessary daily activity reports Perform other quality control services for construction materials during placement Perform inspections on certain aspects of the project as required Ability to search the web and other resources for solutions Obtain other certifications needed as dictated by local agencies and JDS Keep the vehicle clean and maintenance up to date Maintain NCDOT QMS certification Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or Associate's degree Experience: Previous soil testing or construction experience is desired, but not required. Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills convey data both internally and externally Excellent time-management and organizational skills with close attention to detail Excellent customer service skills and response time OSHA 10-hour training required (8-hour refresher courses must be current) Must understand and be able to apply local, regional, and national regulations as well as JDS standards in the assessment of new and ongoing projects Software Proficiency: MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher Adobe Acrobat & Other PDF Editors Google Suite – Gmail, Gdocs, Gsheets, GData, GForms, Keep, Meet, Drive Dropbox Awardco ADP Platform – Timesheets, Vacation MGMT, Learning Management System Equipment Proficiency: DCP – Dynamic Cone Penetrometer SCP – Static Cone Penetrometer Laser Level Laser Tape Hand Auger Probe Rod Gas Auger Hammer Drill/Auger Rebound Hammer Drive Tube Sand Cone Air Pressure Pot Slump Cone Cylinder Molds Core Sampler Cell Phone w/ Camera & Drive/Dropbox Integration All in-house lab testing equipment NCDOT QMS Certified Benefits (After 60 Days of Employment) : 401(k) 401(k) matching Dental Insurance Health insurance Life insurance 9 Paid holidays Paid time off (vacation, sick, bereavement, parental leave) Tuition reimbursement Vision insurance Bonus structure Job Type: Full-time, Hourly Additional compensation: Bonus program after 60 days of employment Company phone, vehicle, and gas card will be provided Compensation: Pay Frequency: Semi-Monthly Pay is commensurate with experience Qualifications: Required education: High school or equivalent Required experience: 3 years of field engineering experience or 3 years of construction management experience Soil and Material Testing: 1 year Required license or certification: ACI / NCDOT/ QMS Certified Technician A job for which military-experienced candidates are encouraged to apply
