outpatient surgery centers.Occ SummaryOperation of sonographic
equipment, perform and c ommunicate results ofdiagnostic
examinationsusing sonography.
Work PerformedPerforms clinical assessment and diagnostic ult
rasound examinations.Exams include,but may not be limited to,
abdominal , vascular, smallparts, ob-gyn, vascular, infant
head/hip/spine, and int erventionalprocedures.Follow established
departmental policy.Uses cognit ive sonographic skills to identify,
record, and adaptprocedures as appro priate to anatomical,
pathological, diagnosticinformation and images.Use s independent
judgment during the sonographic exam to accuratelydifferen tiate
between normal and pathologic findings.Analyzes sonograms, synthes
izes sonographic information and medicalhistory, and communicates
findin gs to the Radiologist.Assume responsibility for the safety,
mental and p hysical comfort ofpatients while they are in the
sonographer's care.Comm unicate effectively with the patient and
thehealth care team,recognizin g the special nature of sonographic
examinations and patient'sneeds.Assi sts with the daily operations
of the ultrasound department.Completes exa m tracking/billing
accurately on a daily basis.Maintains ultrasound equi pment and
work area, and maintainsadequatesupplies.Establishes and main tains
productive ethical working relationships withcoworkers, referring
providers and commercial agencies.Performs other work-related
duties as assigned.Assist in training of ultrasound students during
clinical rotations.Performs other work-related duties as
assignedProficient in the per formance of ultrasound procedures and
does notrequire assistance from fe llow sonographers.Provide
direction and instruction to existing personne l and training tonew
sonographers.Assist in teaching of ultrasound techn ology to new
physicians,residents, and fellows.Coordinateswith other st aff to
assure appropriate patient care isprovided.Reports equipment fail
ures to the appropriate supervisor or staffmember.Participates in
the maintenance of laboratory accreditation.Perform other related

the health system. -Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - - -Level
Characteristi cs -N/A -Minimum Qualifications - -EducationGraduate
of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program that is
accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health
Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required (may substitute with ARDMS
certification on or before December 31, 2000) Bachelor of Science
degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography is desirable. -Experience -
- -Degrees, Licensures, Certifications -Current compliance with
Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements in for specialty
(ies) as appropriate. Level I Must obtain ARDMS certifications in
the following (Abdomen, OB/GYN, Vascular) as required by each
entity within 18 months of employment. Level II Minimum of two
years' experience as a Sonographer. Level III A minimum of four
years' experience within specialty modality which they are seeking
