Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. A specialized opening is available for an RN with stepdown nursing expertise in Kernersville, NC, on a contract basis. This assignment offers the opportunity to work in an advanced medical environment with a newly opening progressive care unit (PCU) that will transition into an intensive care unit (ICU) by the end of the year. The setting supports a broad spectrum of high-acuity cardiac patients, with an emphasis on critical care skills in cardiovascular nursing. Key Responsibilities: - Provide comprehensive nursing care for cardiac and surgical patients including those post-cardiac transplant, CABG, and vascular surgeries. - Utilize skills in managing patients with advanced cardiac devices such as Impella and LVAD. - Perform wound care, EKG interpretation, management of drips/pressors, chest tubes, and airway management. - Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including respiratory therapists, intensivists, and hospitalists. - Support patient acuity changes as the unit evolves from PCU to ICU, adapting to 1:2-3 patient ratios. Qualifications and Experience: - Minimum of 2 years ICU or PCU experience; CVICU experience preferred. - Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale certification required. - Proficiency in critical care nursing including defibrillation, cardioversion, and managing advanced life support equipment. - Experience with Swan-Ganz catheters and Impella devices highly desirable. - Ability to float within scope to other units as needed. Schedule: - 12-hour shifts, either 06:3019:00 or 18:3007:00. - Weekend rotation every other or equivalent. - Holiday work at 50% during contract. - Self-scheduling with staff priority signup.
