To provide overall job description and duties for the Transitional
Nurse Technician (TNT) program aimed at increasing job opportunity
awareness and exposure to Registered Nurse positions at Cone Health
System for Nursing Programs.
The TNT program provides the following:1. Patient care under the
supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse (RN)2.
Observational opportunities working directly with the RN3.
Opportunities for acclimation and socialization to assigned nursing
departments4. Didactical opportunities during the TNT program as
defined by the Department Director5. Prepare the TNT for a smooth
transition to the role of the RN within the assigned nursing
department with successful completion of the TNT program
The TNT will work with assigned RN preceptor(s). Provides patient
care under the direction of the RN and in accordance with
guidelines set by the NC Division of Facility Services (NTI).
Required: Rising senior actively enrolled and in an approved school
of Nursing. Completion of a Nursing Assistant I and II training
Required: The TNT program will be a competitive entry program.
Selection guidelines developed with input from Talent Acquisition,
Educational Leaders and Departmental and Executive Nursing
Currently listed and in good standing, as a Nurse Aide I with the
Division of Health Service Regulation.
MAJOR WORK ACTIVITIES:
Demonstrates personal accountability. Completes assigned tasks in a
timely manner and keeps appropriate persons informed of problems.
Completes work in manner to enhance patient satisfaction.
Demonstrates basic and advanced department competencies. Attends
required meetings as determined by Department Director.
Demonstrates appropriate use of universal precautions and personal
protective equipment. Demonstrates adherence to established dress
code. Completes mandatory requirements: Completes mandatory
education: CPR, Fire/Safety, Blood Borne Pathogens, Safe Medical
Devices, TB, Utilities Management Failure, Health and Safety Plan,
Falls Prevention and Department-specific. Obtains TB testing per
schedule. Maintains current license or listing.?5 %?Performs direct
patient care appropriate to patient condition, needs and/or age.
Provides assistance with activities of daily living. Performs
assigned patient care. Demonstrates proficiency in appropriate
competencies.?15 %?Working with the Registered Nurse the TNT will
demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills
working with patients, families and members of the team. Promotes a
positive work environment. Working with the assigned RN the TNT
will: Communicates with other hospital departments to
initiate/follow up on orders as appropriate. Participates in
admission/transfer/discharge process. Relays information/messages
to the assigned RN and appropriate person(s) in a timely manner.
Demonstrates proficiency in the use of manual and automated
communication systems. Reports patient status changes,
patient/family concerns or unsafe conditions to the RN. Directs
questions and problems to assigned RN or team member recognizing
the need to seek assistance when necessary. Provides input for the
plan of care. Documents pertinent information on patient record,
per NT standards. Provides emotional support to patients and
significant others as needed. Participates in RN report.?80 %
