Business Unit JR Cigar Reports to HR Manager Job location Burlington, NC Manager / Non-Manager Non-Manager Position Summary Under the direction of the HR Manager, the Human Resources and Safety BP will have a key role in the success of JR Cigars by offering guidance on HR related aspects such as performance management, employee relations, training and development with a major focus on local safety initiatives while also assisting with company-wide safety initiatives for Casa de Monticristo, MC Management, Altadis USA and Tabacalera USA. Major Areas of Responsibilities Cultivating relationships with line management and employees to better understand their needs and know how to support and guide when appropriate Manage employee life cycle including recruiting, onboarding, development and retention Managing employee engagement, partnering with line management and supervisors to promote a positive work environment Support and guide line managers with a wide range of HR related matters including but not limited to safety, performance and employee relations Evaluate, assess, and update safety procedures and policies to ensure worker safety and compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards Utilize available or developed data to analyse trends and identify risk, proactively partner with line management for safety and employee relations matters Track trends, near misses, and looking at pro-active ways to improve safety and associate relations Prepare and conduct safety training sessions Conduct injury and incident inquiries, evaluations, and prepare recommendations for incident prevention Oversee training and safety inspections on personnel, material and equipment Responsible for OSHA record-keeping and Worker's Compensation incidents and reports to Labor & Industries, assist company-wide as needed Assist with employee communications and feedback through avenues such as company meetings Partner with Payroll and Benefits Admin to manage all FMLA requests and approved claims. Confirm eligibility, ensure timely determination, track time away, guide employees through the process to better understand, returning the employee back from LOA, etc. Assist with all North Carolina Employee Exits Serve as a backup for payroll and benefits administration Maintain employee records to ensure compliance Other duties as assigned Education and Skills Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management or related discipline. 5 years' relevant HR experience Minimum of 3-5 years of Safety related experience (DOT/OSHA), training adults, and a minimum of 1-3 years of working with technically and culturally diverse groups Broad knowledge of Human Resources and safety field plus knowledge of related business, political and social issues. Experience working white- and blue-collar environments Employee focused attitude, with a high level of discretion and professionalism Excellent interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching skills Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. - Required to regularly talk and listen - Required to frequently stand and walk a large facility with high levels of humidity
