If so, LabCorp wants to speak with you about exciting opportunities to join our Toxicology team as a Technologist Trainee/ Technologist Trainee in Burlington, NC. The Toxicology department consists of 4 sub departments: Toxicology, Biological Monitoring, Blood Lead and Mass Spectrometry. These have a combined volume of approximately 500,000 tests a month. Our toxicology tests are primarily focused on therapeutic drug monitoring, our biological monitoring tests focus on metal or chemical exposures and our mass spec department is our most rapidly growing area and encompasses testing from several disciplines from toxicology to endocrinology. The position will primarily be responsible for the Plasma Metanephrines and Opiates assays. This position will also utilize automated and manual extraction techniques to perform high volume extraction protocols, be responsible for the specimen management, reagent prep, and daily instrument setup of the AB Sciex LC/MS/MS systems associated with those assays.
The work schedule for this position will be 3rd Shift (Sunday-Thursday 11:00 p.m.- 7:30 a.m.). This position qualifies for a shift differential incentive.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
    Requirements:
    • A Bachelors degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or related science required
    • 1 year clinical lab experience preferred at the Technologist level Ability to work independently and within a team environment
    • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems are a plus
    • High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
    • Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen
    • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
