Consumer Genetics is one o f the world's largest genotyping facilities, having genotyped millions of samples for SNP (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism) analysis since 2013. SNPs are single base changes in DNA that give rise to genetic variation. These variations can be used for ancestral typing, health and disease risk factors, carrier conditions, and curiosity testing--anything from physical characteristics such as hair and eye color, muscle composition, effects of DNA on diet, and interesting facts such as your body's reactions to environmental stimuli. Job Summary:Performs moderate to high complexity tests/ assays in an entry level capacity according to established testing procedures in the designated technical department. Follows standard operating procedures. Performs tasks/procedures as approved in training and competency records with appropriate supervision. Performs those duties outlined in the incumbent s LabCorp title job description. Additional duties as assigned.The work schedule for this position is: Monday-Friday, 2:00pm - 10:30pm Functional Responsibilities

  • Follows the laboratory s procedure for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
  • Performs proficiency testing and documentation for all tests performed in accordance with CLIA, state and accreditation standards.
  • Adheres to the laboratory s quality control policies; documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
  • Follows the laboratory s established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory s established acceptable levels of performance.
  • Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and c orrects the problem or i mmediately notifies the Laboratory/Technical Supervisor, Laboratory Manager and/or Technical Director.
  • Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory s established performance specifications.
  • Assists other areas/rotations within the department with specified assignments in a timely manner after the assigned job has been completed.
  • Meets company attendance policy.
  • Ensures a professional work environment is maintained.
  • Acts in a professional manner to colleagues; pleasant, shares information relevant to work, no gossiping or disparaging remarks.
  • Cooperates fully and completely with all efforts to implement and enforce LabCorp s Corporate Integrity Program.
  • Sets a personal example of high ethical standards in performing his/her assigned duties.
  • Exhibits awareness of, and adheres to, LabCorp s compliance policies, which apply specifically to his/her assigned duties.Skill Requirements:
    • Speech clarity, utilization of fingers and hands, standing-remaining on one s feet in an upright position, sitting-remaining in the normal seated position, handling-seizing, holding, grasping. Additional job duty (as assigned): (Hazardous Chemical Waste Management) Proper identification of known hazardous material in the workplace. The knowledge of personal protection measures. The avoidance of accidents. The knowledge of hazardous waste characteristics, hazardous waste volume generation limits, accumulations limits, spill control measures, record keeping, proper handling and container management, labeling, container and storage inspection.
    • Possible exposure to infection from disease-bearing specimens; regularly exposed to the risk of blood-borne diseases; must comply with applicable safety procedures.
    • Far acuity-ability to see clearly at 20 feet or more; near acuity-ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less; depth perception-ability to judge distance and space relationships; able to pass a standardized color vision test, as required by test performed
    • Computer literate, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel and email.
    • Education and Experience: B.S./B.A. Degree in Biology, Chemistry or Physical science (or completion of a minimum of 90 semester hours to include the completion of 16 semester hours in Chemistry, 16 semester hours in Biology and 3 semester hours in mathematics and must meet CLIA requirements.
