defined in this section. The Assistant Plant Hog Procurement
Business Manager at Smithfield, supports our Plant Hog Procurement
Business Manager in meeting the plant's livestock supply needs at
competitive costs. You'll help coordinate and direct activities
related to purchasing and receiving livestock, ensuring all
processes are followed to maintain humane handling of pigs in line
with company policies and USDA regulations. Additionally, you'll
have the opportunity to provide leadership and guidance in the
facility with team members, in the field with suppliers, and at
industry conferences, all while contributing to strengthening the

a leading company in the industry. WHAT YOU’LL DO: The below
statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of
work being performed by people assigned to this job. They are not

duties as assigned. Scheduling & Deliveries: Assists with weekly
scheduling and daily deliveries of animals to the facility.
Supplier & Stakeholder Relations: Maintains strong relationships
with suppliers, plant operations, and the USDA. Cost Monitoring:
Tracks daily hog costs and freight. Reporting: Compiles receiving
data for departmental reports. Leadership Support: Assumes
responsibilities of the Business Manager or Hog Barn Supervisor in
their absence. Training & Compliance: Keeps updated animal handling
and safety training records. Supervision: Oversees supervisors and
daily operations related to humane handling, plant production, and
animal identification. Brand Representation: Represents the Company
Brand in all interactions with management, producers, and industry
partners. People Management: Drives a positive employee experience
through leadership by way of employee development and coaching.
WHAT WE’RE SEEKING: To perform this job successfully, an individual
must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The
requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge,

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or
university in animal science, agricultural business, agricultural
economics, economics, business or related field and 3 years of
relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and
experience, required. Experience acting as a lead by providing
training, coaching or mentoring to less experienced staff or
through managing a process or project. Transport Quality
Assurance-Advisor Training, preferred. Pork Quality
Assurance-Certification or Advisor, preferred. Prior knowledge of
the pork or food industry. USDA bondable. Must be able to travel
10% or more of the time. OTHER SKILLS THAT MAKE YOU STAND OUT:
Knowledge of accounting, inventory, manufacturing and ordering
process. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, Word and
PowerPoint. Economic and math skills, and the ability to analyze
information and data. Excellent verbal and written communication
skills and strong interpersonal skills. Strong business and
negotiating skills. Independent decision making abilities. Ability
to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while
building strong working relationships and a positive work
